For example, if your account balance at 00:00 broker time is $10,000 and you set daily drawdown at 5%, then during the day, if your account balance or equity drops below $9,500, the daily drawdown has been touched.
If the trader has one or more open positions at the start of a new day, the account balance and equity will not be equal, and daily drawdown is calculated relative to the start-of-day "balance".

Reviewing the cases:
- In an account with a start-of-day balance of $50,000, the trader's daily drawdown is $2,500, and the maximum allowed drop for equity and balance is $47,500.
- If equity is higher than balance at the start of the day: if start-of-day balance is $10,000 and equity is $10,300, drawdown is calculated relative to the $10,000 balance and its value is $9,500.
